For bringing that point up, I have two tropes for you--Adaptational Attractiveness and its flip side Hollywood Homely.Pinku-Senseihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16247618351725715844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752611264465083204.post-38246544114219651662014-04-01T03:13:18.080-04:002014-04-01T03:13:18.080-04:00"white trash apocalypse"

Those are probably what they signify to Hollywood, especially the latter one. That they might mean something more sinister to some people in the audience isn't really their problem.

Yes, I remember Rat Patrol and other WWII shows and movies. That similar shows about Vietnam, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq are not on the airwaves is probably related to that same reaction. Instead, we get shows that are national security theater, not war as such.

Finally, I've watched three zombie movies lately in addition to being a regular watcher of "The Walking Dead." I need to write something about them.Pinku-Senseihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16247618351725715844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752611264465083204.post-1195675940904976922014-02-17T12:19:22.701-05:002014-02-17T12:19:22.701-05:00Maybe "zombie" is a code-word for the re...Maybe "zombie" is a code-word for the real human beings that we fear may appear hungry for the meager resources that we happen to hold, going into a regime of scarcity. Or, maybe they're just a Hollywood construct which allows "people like us" to heroically face a dangerous "Other", without that Other being identified as a members of any actual race, ethnicity, or any other politically correct protected class.

When I was young, I watched a TV show called "Rat Patrol", about heroic US forces operating against purely evil Nazi forces in North Africa. Today, we would probably have too much sympathy for the conscripted German foot soldiers getting mowed down by machine guns, but zombies? Fire away.

I must admit that I have no actual exposure to the zombie genre, except for one book. There's enough drama for me in the daily news and in my backyard vegetable garden, without fiction.latheChuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03112036274542149604noreply@blogger.com
