As for experiencing instead of recording, there is something there about the nature of reality and memory, but I don't have enough coffee in me to figure it out right now.Pinku-Senseihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16247618351725715844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752611264465083204.post-4619337515836594352017-03-21T21:08:56.428-04:002017-03-21T21:08:56.428-04:00Congratulations on the blogiversary!
The practice...Congratulations on the blogiversary!

The practice of jumping over fire, I've heard, has become more popular in Iran in recent years precisely because it asserts pre-Islamic identity (fire was sacred to Zoroastrianism, and the present theocracy discourages anything associated with that). The popularity of the whole Nowruz holiday is probably linked to that as well.

The second video reminded me of an unrelated point which has often struck me. Notice the people holding up cell-phone cameras and recording the first dance. I think these days people get so fixated on recording their experiences that it distracts from, well, just experiencing them. A dance group like that surely has videos of their performances available, much better in quality than what you could get with a cell phone. When there's a live performance in front of you, just watch, and live in the moment. That's how I feel.Infidel753https://www.blogger.com/profile/10965786814334886696noreply@blogger.com
