The New York Times reports on Troy's problems

It looks like all the attention given to Troy, or at least its budget problems, has paid off. The New York Times is now covering the issue with an interview of Troy's city manager. In it, both the reporter and the manager describe the paradox of a very well-off city that can't afford to run itself. The city manager points out that it's because the city has the lowest tax rate of any city in the area and because of the high number of avid anti-tax people there (this should come as no surprise, since the headquarters of the Libertarian Party of Michigan is in the city; it's also a Tea Party stronghold) who obstruct any efforts to raise taxes, preventing the city from providing services.
