CNN and CBS This Morning observe the fall of the Berlin Wall 30 years later

Today is the actual anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, so it's time to see how Germany is observing the event 30 years on.

CNN showed a cheerful clip in which their car became part of the story in Germany marks 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The Berlin Wall was torn down 30 years ago sending shock waves across Europe, and sparked hopes for millions of East Germans. CNN's Frederik Pleitgen reports from Berlin.
That report celebrates the optimism people felt 30 years ago.  That's not the case in CBS This Morning's 30 years after fall of Berlin Wall, expectation of unity has faded.

Thirty years ago, the Berlin Wall, one of the most enduring symbols of the Cold War in Europe, came down piece by piece. That pivotal moment promised a more unified, democratic world, but decades later, that expectation has faded with the rise of nationalism and cracks appearing in the European Union and NATO. Roxana Saberi reports.
The maintenance and expansion of democracy and liberty require constant effort and vigilance; progress will not happen by itself.

I plan on posting one more entry on the subject focusing on the key decision by East German politicians, which East German bureaucrats amplified by mishandling it, at least from the perspective of the politicians.  The East German people had other ideas about its implementation.  Stay tuned.
