I mirrored James Howard Kunstler swims against the stream on gender role equality, too to my LiveJournal, where a lively discussion resulted. In particular, pay attention to this thread, in which commenters provided even more examples of Kunstler's misogyny and masculism, such as Kunstler's review of "Master and Commander."
The commenter Nebris has a special perspective. Kunstler was his summer camp counselor at Camp Mascoma during the early 1960s, so Nebris has known him for a long time. For his insights, I recommend you read his entry In Which Her Prophet Cogitates Upon The Deeper Motivations Of Two Doomers. One of the two doomers is Kunstler, and Nebris' observations take new meaning in light of what I wrote yesterday. The other is John Michael Greer, the Archdruid. Nebs has even more pointed things to say about him. I plan to post commentaries on Nebris' observations of both of them as part of this month's series on bloggers swimming against the stream. Nebs himself will not be immune. He'll have his time in the spotlight this month as well.
I see Kunstler deleted his "I voted for Barack Obama and am now disappointed" page.
ReplyDeleteNope, not deleted, just moved. It's here, given a new address when his blog was reorganized and started using https.
DeleteAnd Greer has deleted his "Waiting for the Millennium/Part One: Peak Oil Goes Mainstream" post as well.
ReplyDeleteNo matter. At this point, they're both irrelevant.
Greer deleted all of The Archdruid Report when he moved because Blogger/Google insisted on a cell phone number they could text for two-factor identification so he could access his blog at a new location. Luddite that he is (he once said his birth chart indicated that he was an eccentric who likes old things as an example of astrology working), he doesn't have one and wants nothing to do with it. His new blog is on WordPress. The old blog isn't completely gone. A mirror site preserved all the posts and all the essays have been published in a book.
DeleteAs for Greer being irrelevant, he's in an award-winning documentary about Pepe the Frog. He even has an IMDB page. Oh, and the alt-right occultists have flocked to him. So, we wish, but no.
