Colbert, 'The Daily Show,' Meyers, and Kimmel take closer looks at the shutdown

After being serious yesterday in CNBC explains the federal government shutdown, it's time for some comedy, beginning with Trump Uses The Shutdown To Punish Dems | Vance: We're Having A Good Time | Catching The A.I. Bug.

President Trump is using the government shutdown to punish anyone who didn't vote for him, J.D. Vance loves memes so we made a special one just for him, and Stephen Colbert checks in on some well-known people who are dipping their toes in the artificial intelligence pool.
The threatening statements from Karoline Leavitt, Donald "Hoover Cleveland" Trump and the rest of his administration look and sound a lot like DARVO (Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender) — "look what you made me do!" No, you were going to do it anyway; you were just looking for an excuse.

As for the meme with JD Vance making love to a couch, it reminds me that there is a game called Date Everything! Everything includes a couch named Koa, and there is already a meme of it/him with Vance.

Dude, you'd be better off with Betty the bed. She looks more comfortable.

Stephen had mocked the shutdown Wednesday in ICE Deportations Continue Amid Gov't Shutdown | Bernie: We Won't Back Down | Humiliating J.D. Vance.

Although the federal government has shut down, President Trump's deportations and troop deployments to American cities will proceed without pause. In Washington, Democratic leaders played Vice President Vance for laughs and told reporters they won't give in to Republican pressure to let healthcare subsidies expire.
The shutdown is revealing what Hoover Cleveland and his administration considers to be essential services. Priorities.

Follow over the jump for more from The Daily Show, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Kimmel.

The Daily Show had more to say about the shutdown and priorities, beginning with Trump Posts Bizarre AI Videos as Government Shuts Down on Wednesday.

With a government shutdown fully in effect, Ronny Chieng takes a look at Trump's confusingly racist AI videos of Democratic leaders and braces for how the shutdown will impact everything from the TSA to national parks. Plus, Josh Johnson reports live from the Grand Canyon, which is already turning into a literal s**thole.
What's Hoover Cleveland's priority? Trolling the Democratic leadership. Honestly, I liked trolling with a mariachi band better when Q did it to Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Speaking of funny but sad, the idea of people pooping into the Grand Canyon upsets me. After all, I worked for the National Park Service.

The trolling continued in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoZwKjQ0c18.

Ronny Chieng covers Day 2 of the government shutdown: Republicans and Democrats are dueling via sombrero and cat memes, Trump is going after blue cities with a vengeance, and his administration is surprisingly joyful. Plus, Michael Kosta joins with expert analysis of MAGA’s unconventional shutdown strategy.
Another priority, punishing Democrats, including Democratic voters in blue and purple states, and then blaming the Democrats. I think that's likely to backfire, especially because Hoover Cleveland can't resist claiming credit. Someone else has to be seen losing for Hoover Cleveland to feel like he won. Sore winner, indeed!

Speaking of sore winning, Hoover Cleveland is finally embracing Project 2025 in public. I didn't believe his denials anyway.

It wouldn't be a closer look without Seth Meyers, so here's Trump Contradicts Himself on Shutdown Blame, Declares "War" on U.S. Cities: A Closer Look.

Seth takes a closer look at who's to blame for the government shutdown and Trump’s speech to military leaders threatening “war” on American cities.
Good point, Seth. Why should Democrats fund a government that is threatening to use troops against their voters?

Those videos were from Wednesday and Thursday. Jimmy Kimmel looked at the shutdown on Friday, Matt Damon Forces His Way onto Kimmel in Brooklyn & Trump’s Big Beautiful Shutdown Continues.

Tonight is our 5th and final show in Brooklyn, Jimmy’s parents and Aunt Chippy are in the audience, and his Aunt Joanne and Uncle Tony are here from Marine Park, Guillermo makes his entrance as John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, the Yankees beat the Red Sox last night to win the wild card round, Diddy was sentenced to four years, we are now on day three of Trump’s Big Beautiful government shutdown, a statue of Trump and Epstein has been returned to the National Mall after being removed, and the demon Matt Damon sneaks his way onto the show dressed as New York’s own Frankie Focus.
On the one hand, the shutdown has driven the Epstein files off the front page. On the other, it's allowing the Trump-Epstein statue to remain on the National Mall. Heh.

That's a wrap for today. Stay tuned for the return of Saturday Night Live as the Sunday entertainment feature. More comedy!
