Four new women elected to Congress from Michigan

I mentioned "The video also mentioned three new U.S. Representatives elected from Michigan last night, Rashida Tlaib, Haley Stevens, and Elissa Slotkin, all women" in Stabenow and Whitmer lead a list of women winning office in Michigan as turnout set a record for a midterm election.  WXYZ has reports on all three.

I begin with Democrat Haley Stevens wins race for MI’s 11th Congressional District.

CNN is projecting that Democrat Haley Stevens has won election to Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, beating out Republican Lena Epstein in Tuesday’s midterm election.
Next, Democrat Elissa Slotkin defeats Rep. Mike Bishop in MI's 8th Congressional district.

Republican incumbent Mike Bishop has conceded the race for Michigan's 8th Congressional District to Democrat Elissa Slotkin.
This is a contest that I saw as a coin toss until this past weekend, when FiveThirtyEight moved to Lean Democratic.  I'm glad to see that assessment was borne out by the election results.

Finally, WXYZ reported on the news expected since August in Rashida Tlaib elected on[e] of the first Muslim women to Congress.

We're talking with Rashida Tlaib, one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress.
Tlaib isn't the only woman elected to represent the 13th Congressional District.  Brenda Jones won the special election to fill out the rest of John Conyers term, making her the fourth new woman elected to Congress last night.  There, they will join Debbie Dingell and Brenda Lawrence, women who already represent Michigan in the U.S. House of Represenatatives.  With Jones in the lame duck session, Michigan will have three women in the lower house of Congress.  Beginning in January, Michigan will have five as Slotkins and Stevens take office and Tlaib replaces Jones.  Congratulations to all of them.
