Chewbacca arrested as Darth Vader campaigns for Mayor of Odessa, Ukraine

Last year, I reported on the aborted campaign of Darth Vader for President of Ukraine.

[S]omeone posing as Darth Vader ran for President of Ukraine on the Internet Party ticket this spring before his candidacy was rejected.  Too bad about that.  His campaign would have been more fun to report on that what actually happened in Ukraine this summer.

The Dark Lord of the Sith granted my wish, as he's now running for Mayor of Odessa.

Darth Vader is among the candidates vying for the post of Mayor in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa.  He joins Peking Duck and a man calling himself Putin in the leadership race.

Unfortunately, things are running about as smoothly as last time.  Follow over the jump for the Sith Lord's misfortunes.

First, Russia Today reports The Force prevents Odessa mayoral candidate 'Darth Vader' from voting.

Darth Vader along with his convoy of Storm Troopers and wookie Chewbacca showed up to vote in the mayoral elections in Odessa, Sunday.

I wish I knew Ukrainian or Russian so I could tell what was really going on instead of trusting that RT is telling the truth.  I have trouble with that.

Things got worse for the campaign, as ODN reported that Chewbacca is arrested in Ukraine. (ETA: ODN took that video down.  Here is what CNN had to say about the story: Chewbacca arrested while campaigning for Darth Vader.)

The Wookiee was stopped by police as he drove Darth Vader to a polling station in Odessa. Report by Lindsay Brown Chewbacca got arrested for breaking election rules in Ukraine. CNN's Anderson Cooper reports.

Too bad for the Internet Party candidate and his entourage that the authorities don't have enough of a sense of humor to allow their campaign to proceed unimpeded.  Just the same, good luck to Vader.  If nothing else, he got a statue out of it.
