'Dexter: Resurrection' leads television nominees at the Saturn Awards

I promised coverage of the television nominees at the Saturn Awards as this week's Sunday entertainment feature, but technology didn't cooperate twice, then the router arrived today and my wife set it up while I was at work — thanks! — so I'm uploading it today.

I begin by returning to Deadline Hollywood, which reported "Among the TV nominees, Showtime/Paramount+’s Dexter: Resurrection led the way with six nominations, followed by Andor, It: Welcome to Derry and Stranger Things with five apiece." This list, which passed my accuracy check, sets my agenda for the first four posts examining the television nominees, so I begin with Dexter: Resurrection and the shows nominated against it.
Best Thriller Television Series:

Dark Winds
Dexter: Resurrection
The Lowdown
MobLand
The Rainmaker
Your Friends and Neighbors
As Deadline Hollywood reported, Dexter: Resurrection leads both all television nominees and the nominees in this category with six nominations, while the rest of the nominees in this field have only this one nomination, so it's the favorite. It helps that at least two accounts on Twitter are mounting an awards campaign for Dexter: Resurrection. I didn't vote for it. Instead, I voted for Dark Winds, which my wife and I are fans of. I won't be disappointed if it loses to Dexter: Resurrection. In fact, I expect it.

I won't complain about the quality of the field, but I'm making a note to myself to submit my own list of thriller and mystery TV series next December. If I had done so last year, it wouldn't have changed my vote or the likely winner, but I might at least know who the other nominees are.

Follow over the jump for the actors from Dexter: Resurrection nominated at the Saturn Awards.

Best Actor in a Television Series:

Sterling K. Brown (Paradise)
John Cena (Peacemaker)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter: Resurrection)
Sam Heughan (Outlander)
Diego Luna (Andor)
Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon)
Adam Scott (Severance)
The professional choices are Sterling K. Brown and Adam Scott, both of whom earned Emmy nominations, and Diego Luna, who earned Critics Choice and Golden Globes nominations. I voted for Scott. Luna might be a fan choice as well, although I think Sam Heughan and Norman Reedus would be more popular. As I haven't written often enough in this series, electorates matter. Michael C. Hall is a past Emmy nominee and Saturn Award winner, but he'd win on nostalgia. John Cena is fun and this may be his best acting to date, but I don't think he's as good as the rest of the field.
Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series:

Jack Alcott (Dexter: Resurrection)
William Fichtner (Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order)
Jude Law (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew)
James Marsden (Paradise)
Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth)
Ethan Peck (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds)
Stellan Skarsgard (Andor)
If I completely agreed with the professionals, I'd have voted for James Marsden, who earned an Emmy nomination. Instead, I voted for Stellan Skarsgard, who is likely to win an Oscar for his role in Sentimental Value. I couldn't pass it up. As for the fan choice, Jude Law made an entertaining Star Wars version of Long John Silver in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Ethan Peck is a previous winner.
Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series:

Christina Chong (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds)
Denise Gough (Andor)
Julianne Nicholson (Paradise)
Jennifer Holland (Peacemaker)
Genevieve O’Reilly (Andor)
Uma Thurman (Dexter: Resurrection)
Karolina Wydra (Pluribus)
I left a suggestion for myself in 'The Studio' wins four more Emmy Awards for a total of thirteen.
If it makes James Marsden, Sterling K. Brown, and Julianne Nicholson feel better, I'll suggest Paradise to the Television Committee at the Saturn Awards as an action/thriller series. Who knows, the acting committee might even nominate one of them, most likely Marsden, for an acting award.
I never did make a formal submission, but all three of them earned nominations, as did Paradise, so congratulations! Just for that and for being my idea of a professional choice, I voted for Nicholson. As for the fan choice, I think that would be Uma Thurman.
Best Guest Star in a Television Series:

Dave Dastmalchian (Dexter: Resurrection)
Peter Dinklage (Dexter: Resurrection)
Linda Hamilton (Stranger Things)
James Remar (It: Welcome to Derry)
Bill Skarsgard (It: Welcome to Derry)
Samba Schutte (Pluribus)
Paul Wesley (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds)
There is no professional opinion to guide my choice, as every one of these shows premiered after the cutoff for last year's Emmy Awards and neither the Critics Choice nor Golden Globes honor guest actors/actresses. Therefore, I voted for my favorite, Linda Hamilton, who played the (still) human antagonist in Stranger Things (I don't know if I'd consider the villain Vecna still human). Her main competition consists of Peter Dinklage, Bill Skarsgard, and Paul Wesley, who won this award two years ago. Let's see if the Saturn Award voters can resist a good James T. Kirk, who is not yet captain, this year!

Speaking of not-yet Captain Kirk, stay tuned for this year's version of Star Trek vs. Star Wars at the Saturn Awards as I examine the nominees for Best Science Fiction Television Series after a driving update.
