My Saturn Awards votes vs. winners for Wayback 'Wednesday'

It's Wayback Wednesday! I couldn't resist a good visual pun to introduce this retrospective of the top posts of the 13th year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News, as the most read entry of the past year, both calendar and blogging, was about the Saturn Awards, which honored Wednesday at this year's ceremony with the show winning Best Fantasy Television Series and its star Jenna Ortega winning Best Younger Performer in a Television Series. I'm thrilled to remind my readers that I voted for both winners, so congratulations to me for getting those categories correct and the show and Miss Ortega on their awards!

Of course, not all my votes were for winners, so it's time to compare my picks with the actual awardees.

FILM AWARDS
Best Action / Adventure Film: My vote — The Woman King. Winner — Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, one of the films I thought would win.
Best Actor in a Film: My vote — Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer). Winner — "I expect the plurality of Saturn Award voters will cast their ballots for Harrison Ford" and they did.
Best Actress in a Film: My vote — Margot Robbie (Barbie). Winner — Margot Robbie.
Best Animated Film: My vote — Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Winner — Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Best Fantasy Film: My vote — Barbie. Winner — "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has one more nomination and it might win because 'the Saturn Awards are about entertainment not art, they don't care for subtle, and they love to stick it to the experts.' Voting for what is supposed to be Harrison Ford's last outing as Indiana Jones would do all three. So would voting for Ford himself." Both won.
Best Film Costume Design: My vote — Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Ruth E. Carter). Winner — Barbie, and I'm happy it won instead, as it was the other professional choice and my second choice.
Best Film Direction: My vote — Greta Gerwig (Barbie). Winner — "I wouldn't put it past them to vote for Cameron because the Oscars snubbed him. As I've written about the Saturn Awards for years, 'the Saturn Awards are about entertainment not art, they don't care for subtle, and they love to stick it to the experts.' Voting for Cameron would do all three." The Saturn Awards electorate did as I expected.
Best Film Editing: My vote — Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Andrew Buckland, Michael McCusker, Dirk Westervelt). Winner — Oppenheimer, which I conscientiously objected to, but was still the Oscar winner.
Best Film Make Up: My vote — Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 3 (Alexei Dmitriew, Lindsay Macgowen and Shane Mahan). Winner — The Covenant, first surprise, although I wrote "The rest of the Saturn Award electorate will probably vote for a horror film."
Best Film Music: My vote — Barbie (Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt). Winner — "I fully expect the plurality of the Saturn Awards electorate will vote for John Williams" so he won.
Best Film Production Design: My vote — Barbie (Sara Greenwood). Winner — Barbie.
Best Film Screenwriting: My vote — Barbie (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach). Winner — Avatar: The Way of Water (James Cameron and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. "I don't care what the rest of the Saturn Awards voters think about this category."
Best Film Visual / Special Effects: My vote — Avatar: The Way of Water (Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, Daniel Barrett). Winner — Avatar: The Way of Water.
Best Horror Film: My vote — Renfield. Winner — Talk to Me, which had the second most nominations.
Best Independent Film: My vote — Pearl. Winner — Pearl.
Best International Film: My vote — Speak No Evil (Denmark). Winner — "Before I researched the nominees, Sisu was first choice." My gut was right and I should have listened to it.
Best Science Fiction Film: My vote — Avatar: The Way of Water. Winner — Avatar: The Way of Water.
Best Superhero Film: My vote — Guardians of the Galaxy - Volume 3. Winner — Guardians of the Galaxy - Volume 3.
Best Supporting Actor in a Film: My vote — Ryan Gosling (Barbie). Winner — Nicolas Cage (Renfield). That was a complete surprise, although it fits the pattern of "the Saturn Awards are about entertainment not art, they don't care for subtle, and they love to stick it to the experts."
Best Supporting Actress in a Film: My vote — Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). Winner — "Emily Blunt has nominations for Supporting Actress in a film at both the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes, which the other actresses in this year's nominated films didn't earn" — a legitimate choice.
Best Thriller Film: My vote — Oppenheimer. Winner — Oppenheimer.
Best Younger Performer in a Film: My vote — Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid). Winner — Xolo MaridueƱa, Blue Beetle, my second choice.

TELEVISION AWARDS
Best Action / Adventure / Thriller Television Series: My vote — Outlander. Winner — Outlander.
Best Actor in a Television Series: My vote — Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us). Winner — "I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick Stewart wins, as he won two years ago."
Best Actress in a Television Series: My vote — Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law). Winner — Caitriona Balfe, Outlander, who I was going to vote for until I changed my mind on the next-to-last day.
Best Animated Television Series or Special: My vote — Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Winner — "The Bad Batch won that match and might win again, but they'll do it without my vote." The show did.
Best Fantasy Television Series: My vote — Wednesday. Winner — Wednesday.
Best Guest Star in a Television Series: My vote — Nick Offerman (The Last of Us). Winner — "I don't know if the Saturn Awards electorate can resist a good James Kirk, and [Paul] Wesley makes a good Kirk." Paul Wesley, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Best Horror Television Series: My vote — The Last of Us. Winner — The Last of Us.
Best New Genre Television Series: My vote — The Last of Us. Winner — Andor. That's a legitimate choice given its Emmy nominations.
Best Science Fiction Television Series: My vote — Star Trek: Picard. Winner — Star Trek: Picard.
Best Superhero Television Series: My vote — She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law. Winner — "Superman & Lois is the favorite, not only because it leads in nominations but also because won Best Science Fiction Television Series: Network/Cable last year. I'm pretty sure it will win, but I'm not voting for it." It still won.
Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series: My vote — Ethan Peck (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Winner — Jonathan Frakes, Star Trek: Picard. "My choice is between the once and future Number Ones, Frakes and Peck." I chose the wrong Number One.
Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series: My vote — Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard). Winner — Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard).
Best Television Presentation: My vote — Black Mirror. Winner — Marvel’s Werewolf by Night. "Marvel’s Werewolf by Night ties with The Midnight Club for the most nominated in this category" and I should have paid more attention to that.
Best Young Performer in a Television Series: My vote — Jenna Ortega (Wednesday). Winner — Jenna Ortega (Wednesday).

HOME ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS
Best 4K Home Media Release: My vote — Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition 4K. Winner — John Wick, Chapter 4 – 4K (Lionsgate Home Entertainment), my second choice.
Best Classic Film Home Media Release: My vote — The Manchurian Candidate 4K. Winner — Invaders from Mars 4K (Ignite). Not surprised.
Best Film Home Media Collection: My vote — Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror, Volume 2. Winner — Superman 1978-1987 4K Collection (Warner Home Video). I thought about it and I chose wrong.
Best Television Home Media Release: My vote — Loki (Season 1) – 4K Steelbook. Winner — Night Gallery, Season 3 (Kino Lorber). Not surprised here, either.

Follow over the jump for the top posts about the Saturn Awards from the 13th year of the blog, all of which are from the back catalog.

The number one post of Crazy Eddie's Motie News's 13th year was 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards from May 23, 2018, which earned ~10,200 default and ~10,800 raw page views during the blogging year and placed in the top 20 for eight consecutive months, March through October 2023. It rose to seventh on the all-time default page view list, reaching as high as ~11,300 default page views at the end of October 2023 before falling to ~10,800 as of March 20, 2024, and eighth on the all-time raw page view list with ~11,800 total raw page views. Like all the rest of the entries about the Saturn Awards from the back catalog, it almost certainly earned its page views through web search and no-follow links. I chronicled its rise up the leader boards beginning in July 2023.

During July 2023, 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards from May 23, 2018 passed 'SNL' satirizes 'Fox & Friends' in its Supreme Court cold open from April 3, 2022 between noon and 1:00 P.M. EDT on July 7, 2023 to reach 20th on the all-time default top 20 and kick it off the list. Sic transit gloria mundi. It had passed the previous number 25 in raw page views during July 6, 2023, along with Vox and ProPublica rickroll America's old voting machines and Ten years ago, we were partying like it was 1929. Are we about to do it again? It then passed John Oliver on feelings over facts and Colbert on Trumpiness and 'Star Wars' alignment charts in raw page views during the day on July 7, 2023 to sit 23rd all-time according to raw page views. It passed Instructions on how to deal with an active shooter between 9:00 and 10:00 A.M. on July 10, 2023 to reach 22nd on the all-time raw page view list. It passed Update to 'Suit against John Oliver and HBO dismissed,' top post for the seventh year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News between 4:00 and 5:00 A.M. on July 21, 2023, then inched past U.S. leaving Iran nuclear agreement pushes U.S. oil price above $70 plus driving update for May 2018: Pearl between 7:00 and 8:00 A.M. the same day to reach 18th on the all-time default list. It passed both posts between 4:00 and 5:00 A.M. on July 21, 2023 to reach 20th on the all-time list in terms of raw page views. It passed Flu killed 80,000 Americans last year, including 183 children, the CDC reported, so get a a flu shot for 17th on the default top 20 between 11:00 and 11:59 P.M. on July 21, 2023, although it took until July 22, 2023 between 10:00 and 11:00 P.M. to pass it for 18th on the all-time raw page view list. It passed Trump thinks Sanders is the right enemy in raw page views by 8:00 P.M. on the 22nd to reach 19th on the all-time raw page-view top 20. The post passed The tax bill and the U.S. economy in 2018 and beyond on the default top 20 between 9:00 and 10:00 P.M. on July 22, 2023, followed by Trump thinks Sanders is the right enemy between 10:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M on the 22nd to reach 15th.

During August 2023, 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards from May 23, 2018 passed Seeker explains how television entertainment can shape our political opinions and then John Oliver on stadiums and NFL cheerleaders for Super Bowl Sunday between 3:00 and 4:00 P.M. on August 9, 2023 to reach 16th on the all-time raw page view list. It passed The tax bill and the U.S. economy in 2018 and beyond in raw page views between Noon and 1:00 P.M. on August 22, 2023 (7861 vs. 7844 at 5PM on 8/22/2023) to rank 15th on the all-time raw page view list as well as the default page view list. It reached a statistical tie with Seeker explains how television entertainment can shape our political opinions for 14th between midnight and 1:00 A.M. EDT on August 23, 2023. It then passed John Oliver on stadiums and NFL cheerleaders for Super Bowl Sunday between 1:00 and 2:00 A.M. EDT on August 24, 2023 to rank 13th on the all-time default page view list, although it was still ~670 raw page views behind John Oliver on stadiums and NFL cheerleaders for Super Bowl Sunday and Last Week Tonight examines Clinton and Trump foundations after winning three Emmy Awards on the all-time raw page view list as of 8/24/23.

During September 2023, 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards from May 23, 2018 passed Last Week Tonight examines Clinton and Trump foundations after winning three Emmy Awards between 3:00 and 4:00 P.M. EDT on September 5, 2023 to rank 12th on the all-time default page view list. Between Midnight and 6:00 A.M. EDT on September 6, 2023, it passed 'SNL' opens with holiday greetings from Fauci and others and A comparison of two measures of media bias shows readers and viewers respond to both ideology and quality to reach tenth on the all-time default page view list. It then passed both Last Week Tonight examines Clinton and Trump foundations after winning three Emmy Awards and John Oliver on stadiums and NFL cheerleaders for Super Bowl Sunday on the all-time raw page view list between 6:00 and 7:00 A.M. EDT on September 6, 2023 to reach 13th. It passed Spring ahead, although it's probably not good for you on the all-time default page view list between 2:00 and 3:00 P.M. EDT to reach 9th. It passed Vox on Puerto Rico statehood and John Oliver on territories on the all-time default page view list between 9:00 and 10:00 P.M to reach 8th. It passed Spring ahead, although it's probably not good for you on the all-time raw page view list between 6:00 and 7:00 A.M. EDT on September 7, 2023 for 12th. It passed Game of Thrones D&D character alignment charts between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. on September 19, 2023 to reach 11th on the all-time raw page view list.

During October 2023, it passed A comparison of two measures of media bias shows readers and viewers respond to both ideology and quality to reach 10th on the all-time raw page view list between 1:00 and 2:00 A.M. EDT on October 10, 2023. It passed Doctors to Congress: Fund gun violence research at the CDC and NIH for seventh on the all-time default page view list and ninth on the all-time raw page view list between 4:00 and 5:00 A.M. EDT on October 11, 2023. It tied 'SNL' opens with holiday greetings from Fauci and others at 5:52 A.M. EDT then passed it at 6:50 A.M. on October 12, 2023 for eighth on the all-time raw page view list. Shortly after that, it stalled before it could pass Broken Peach: Singing Spanish goths and witches for Halloween. That happened after I wrote this footnote to Broken Peach sings 'One Way or Another' from 'Hocus Pocus 2' for Halloween.
It doesn't help that 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards is gaining on it for seventh place on the all-time raw page view list. Broken Peach: Singing Spanish goths and witches for Halloween is a moving target, but I'm surprised it isn't moving faster. May my readers help it speed up.
Instead, my readers kept both posts in their places by ceasing to read 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' (again) and 'The Punisher' vs. 'The Defenders' at the Saturn Awards while page views trickled in for Broken Peach: Singing Spanish goths and witches for Halloween not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'll take it.

The second most read entry about the Saturn Awards from the back catalog was 'The Walking Dead' vs. 'American Horror Story: Cult' plus Saturn Awards for the seventh year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News from May 18, 2018. It spent six consective months in the top 20, earning ~1,230 default and ~1,890 raw page views, ranking it sixth by the former and seventh by the latter. It almost certainly earned its page views through web search and no-follow links. It ended the blogging year with ~2,460 total raw page views all-time.

The third Saturn Awards post from the back catalog to make the top 20 was My Saturn Award votes versus the winners for National Science Fiction Day 2022 from January 2, 2022 earned 540 raw page views, again from web search and no follow links to tie for 19th. It made the top 20 in June 2023 and October 2023.

This is where I would have left off last Wednesday, but it's a good thing I didn't post then, as I found two more Saturn Awards posts from the back catalog that qualified for this retrospective. Here they are.

Part 3 of superhero nominees at the 2022 Saturn Awards - streaming video from September 12, 2022 earned 501 raw page views from web search and no-follow links to rank 28th. It made the monthly top 20 twice during June 2023 and September 2023. I wouldn't be surprised if people came from Pinterest, as I kept seeing its preview image among my suggestions there.

(x/47). The sequel to the top post of the blogging year just ended, 'Supergirl' vs. 'The Flash' again for best superhero show on television plus 'Marvel's Daredevil' leads streaming superhero nominees at the 2019 Saturn Awards from Jul 28, 2019, barely made the cutoff for consideration with 393 raw page views, ranking 47th overall for the blogging year. It made the top 20 during June 2023.

I'll see if I can follow through with my promise to continue 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning' and 'The Last of Us' lead nominees at the fourth Critics Choice Super Awards with the TV nominees tomorrow, April 4th. In the meantime, I'm being a good environmentalist by recycling It's Wayback 'Wednesday'.

I was working on a post that was going to take too long, so I made this meme instead. I like the idea of Wednesday Addams as a mascot for Wayback Wednesday. I hope my readers do, too.
