'Incredible Animal Journeys' leads Outstanding Nature Documentaries at the News & Doc Emmy Awards for International Tiger Day

Happy International Tiger Day! As I promised yesterday, I'm examining nominated nature documentaries like I did last year. I'm focusing on the only nominee for Outstanding Nature Documentary with multiple nominations, Incredible Animal Journeys | Official Trailer | National Geographic.

We might think we are the world's greatest explorers, but we're not. INCREDIBLE ANIMAL JOURNEYS narrated by Jeremy Renner premieres Nov. 19th at 9/8c on National Geographic, streams next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
I'm repeating what I wrote yesterday.
Incredible Animal Journeys has four nominations total to be the most nominated member of this field, Outstanding Nature Documentary, Outstanding Cinematography: Documentary, and Outstanding Promotional Announcement: Documentary, in addition to Outstanding Sound: Documentary. It's my preliminary pick for Outstanding Nature Documentary.
I can see why this trailer earned its nomination for Outstanding Promotional Announcement: Documentary. It has a decent chance of winning, too, as 'Super/Natural' won Outstanding Promotional Announcement last year. I'll have more to say after I watch the rest of the nominees in that category.

Follow over the jump for the trailers for the rest of the nominated nature documentaries at the News & Doc Emmy Awards.

I resume with Evolution Earth - 2023 - PBS Documentary Series.

Traveling to the far corners of the world, we discover the extraordinary ways animals are adapting to our rapidly changing planet. We witness nature’s remarkable resilience, as our perception of evolution and its potential is forever transformed.
Shane Campbell-Staton is the narrator. He's the host of Human Footprint, nominated for Outstanding Science Documentary. I'll get to that category later. Right now, I'm returning to the nominees in this category with Nature: The Hummingbird Effect - Preview.

Explore Costa Rica one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. From rainforests to volcanos, tiny architects and caretakers at the heart of this vast wildlife diversity keep this ecological giant running: the hummingbirds.
Next, Path of the Panther | Official Trailer | National Geographic.

Drawn in by the haunting specter of the Florida panther, National Geographic Explorer Carlton Ward Jr. and a coalition of biologists, ranchers, conservationists, and Indigenous Peoples find themselves on the front lines of an accelerating battle between forces of renewal and destruction that have pushed the Everglades to the brink of ecological collapse.

This odyssey of hope and heartbreak is the culmination of more than five years of field research, 500,000 still images, and over 800 hours of ultra high definition camera trap footage. Against all odds, wild panthers have been stunningly captured in their native ecosystem, as they've never been filmed before.

The film is the cornerstone of the ‘Path of the Panther' project, supported by the National Geographic Society and many other partners that inspired the passage of the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act – the first legislation of its kind and a blueprint for addressing habitat fragmentation and species extinction across the globe.
No tigers, but still big cats, even if they're on the small cat side of the family. Based on the trailer, this looks like the best bet to upset Incredible Animal Journeys. Either way, National Geographic would win.

Now the last nominee, Nature: Soul Of The Ocean PREVIEW.

Take a deep breath and experience the complex world of ocean waters. NATURE shows a never-before-seen look at how life underwater co-exists in a marriage of necessity.
If I were planning on teaching more than two years, I'd look at this to replace Selva Verde: The Green Jungle. Instead, I'll just recommend it, along with the rest of the nominees, to my students so they can watch it for extra credit.

I close with Days and Dreams asking International Tiger Day (July 29) - Why is International Tiger Day celebrated?

Global Tiger Day is celebrated every year on July 29th as a way to raise awareness about this magnificent but endangered big cat. The day was founded in 2010, when the 13 tiger range countries came together to create Tx2 – the global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022.
Now there are actually tigers in today's post.

I don't know what I'm blogging about next, so stay tuned to see what I write about tomorrow!
