'SNL' celebrates Mother's Day with the cast's moms and Maya Rudolph

Happy Mother's Day! As I promised yesterday, I'm posting a Mother's Day edition of highlights from last night's Saturday Night Live beginning with Mother’s Day 2024 Cold Open.

Kenan Thompson, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Punkie Johnson, Mikey Day, Chloe Troast, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, James Austin Johnson, Marcello Hernández, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, John Higgins, Ben Marshall, Martin Herlihy, Bowen Yang, and Colin Jost bring their mothers on the show.
That was funny and sweet, just like three years ago when 'SNL' celebrated Mother's Day with the cast's and guests' moms. I was hoping they would reuse that idea and I got my wish.

This week's host had her own holiday feature in Maya Rudolph Mother’s Day Monologue.

Maya Rudolph talks about celebrating Mother's Day on SNL before performing a song.
Slay!

Follow over the jump for Weekend Update and selected skits.

The big political news with comedic potential was Stormy Daniels testifying at Trump's trial and it was the top story of Weekend Update: Stormy Daniels Says Trump Didn't Wear Condom, RFK Jr.'s Parasitic Brain Worm.

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week's biggest news, like Stormy Daniels's graphic testimony of having sex with Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s parasitic brain worm, and Rudy Giuliani's radio show being canceled mid-sentence.
I appreciated using the auroras caused by the ongoing solar storm as a punchline. Science!

Remember Sarah Sherman's mom telling her daughter that she would play RFK Jr's brain worm in the cold open? That may have been a joke, but she wasn't kidding. Watch Weekend Update: RFK Jr.'s Brain Worm.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Brain Worm stops by Weekend Update to endorse him for president.
I'm with Colin Jost; I wouldn't kiss a tapeworm, even if Sarah Sherman is playing it.

The next clip, Weekend Update: Miss Teen USA Resigns, Surprise Ozempic Babies, qualified today's entry as the Sunday entertainment feature.

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week’s biggest news like the WNBA allowing teams to travel by private plane, Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala dress, and a cruise ship worker attacking 3 people with scissors.
SNL turned Kristi Noem into a running joke last week and they couldn't resist revisiting her this week. Good thing it was short. I found the topic painful.

SNL returned to the Mother's Day theme with Weekend Update: A Woman Who Insists She's Not Mad.

A Woman Who Insists She's Not Mad stops by Weekend Update to discuss Mother's Day gifts.
I can't take my mom out to brunch because she's 2,000 miles away, but I talked to her already and I'm glad I did.

The most popular clip from last night's episode is Hot Ones with Beyoncé 2 with 750,000 views and counting after only twelve hours. It's currently number 30 on trending!

Beyoncé (Maya Rudolph) returns to Hot Ones.

I don't think I've ever watched an episode of Hot Ones on First We Feast, but now I want to. Should I lie down and wait for the urge to pass?

May 6-10 was Teacher Appreciation Week this year, which SNL observed with Teacher PSA, whether the writers know it or not.

A group of teachers (Maya Rudolph, Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, Andrew Dismukes, Ego Nwodim, Punkie Johnson, James Austin Johnson, Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Michael Longfellow) deliver an end of the year public service announcement.
I remember feeling like this at the end of the school year when I taught middle school. That's why I don't do it anymore.

That's a wrap for today's highlights post of an episode that I'm sure will get Maya Rudolph another Emmy nomination. She deserves it!
