Tales of two trailers: James Bond and Star Wars

For the Sunday entertainment entry I promised, I'm following up to one of the two trailers I mentioned two weeks ago and another one announced last week with two videos from Discovery News.

First, DNews explains Why We Can't Have Lightsabers.

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released last week, and it got us thinking: Why can't we have lightsabers?
The lightsaber with the cross guard in the trailer certainly made an impression.

Follow over the jump for the latest news about the next James Bond film, along with another reaction from DNews.

Last week, the first teaser trailer for the next James Bond movie was released, James Bond 24 SPECTRE Official Trailer

James Bond will return in SPECTRE. Joining Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Rory Kinnear are Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, David Bautista and Andrew Scott.
Here's what Doctor RJ wrote about it on Daily Kos, quoting /Film.
Spectre is the fictional terrorist organization introduced in the novel Thunderball, and represented on screen beginning in Dr. No.

The name stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. The organization’s leader is Ernst Stavro Blofeld — the guy with the white cat who has been played by a few different actors over the years. A messy rights battle kept Blofeld and Spectre out of Bond films for many years. That issue was set right last year, clearing a path for their return to Bond films produced by EON Productions.

(The group called Quantum was introduced prior to that rights resolution, intended as a Spectre replacement. No doubt this new film will address that topic in some fashion.)

Now, ever since Christoph Walz's involvement in the film was announced, there's been speculation he's going to be revealed as Blofeld. And many think the above image and character name is a smokescreen. However, there is the alternate theory that we may get a gender-switch, and Monica Belucci's character is really the new Blofeld.

Of course, the final possibility is that neither of the characters is Blofeld, and another surprise bit of casting may happen.
Finally, here’s the Spectre teaser poster. Obsess over the details of that strange bullet hole if you like. There’s a clear resemblance to the old Spectre logo, seen in various versions on film and in video games, as on Blofeld’s ring in From Russia With Love.
Looks like it's supposed to be the SPECTRE logo to me.  As for Ms. Bellucci, who is best known for her role as Persephone in the second and third Matrix movies, she's someone who should have been in a Bond film already.  It's about time she finally appears in one.

DNews didn't address any of the details of the upcoming installment in the most successful film franchise ever.  Instead, they asked Why Do We Love James Bond?

The new James Bond movie, titled Spectre, was announced this week, and the Internet exploded with anticipation! Why does everyone love fictional characters so much?
007 as an example of why entertainment is so compelling.  I like that.
