Colbert and Meyers return from break to take closer looks at politicians saying stupid things about history and science

I warned my readers to "Stay tuned for more more awards show coverage unless I see an even shinier object" at the conclusion of PBS NewsHour reflects on the third anniversary of January 6th, and I saw a shiner object, the return of Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers from their holiday breaks. It's been a long time since Festivus! Without any further ado, I'm sharing Haley Fumbles Civil War Question | Trump Panders To Iowa’s Evangelicals | Boeing’s 737 Blunder.

Nikki Haley left out some important details when describing the cause of the Civil War, Donald Trump is playing to the faithful ahead of the Iowa caucus, and Stephen describes a scary situation on a recent Boeing 737 flight.
Darling Nikki looked more moderate than Trump on social issues, but this flub — not a gaffe, because that's when a politician accidentally tells the truth, which is the opposite of what Haley did — exposed her to be just as conservative as Trump, just in a more conventional way.

Moving from history to science, what Colbert showed wasn't even the dumbest thing Trump said about science. Seth Meyers played off of that in Incoherent Trump Melts Down After Biden Calls Him Out in Jan. 6 Speech: A Closer Look.

Seth takes a closer look at Biden intensifying his attacks on Trump by delivering a speech on threats to democracy and the anniversary of January 6 and Trump responding by finding new ways to unravel into an even more unhinged and incoherent mess.
I saw that on Twitter over the weekend and responded with a meme. I wasn't alone in making the association. Colbert opened last night's show with Trump’s Theory Of Magnetivity.

The former president presents his theory on how magnets work.
LOL, "Insane Clown President," the last book by Matt Taibbi worth reading, although the Wikipedia article foreshadowed what was about to go wrong with Taibbi when it noted the "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette criticized the book for not delving deeply into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections."

Enough of that. I'm not letting bad science have the last word on today's entry, so listen to Sound of Science: Hunger Games for Sperm | Charge A Phone With Your Body | Cat Facial Expressions.

Stephen Colbert brings you all the latest news from the world of science, including alarming statistics about global sperm counts and a study that argues cats employ nearly 300 different facial expressions.
LOL, "butt plug," CBS's Standards and Practices must be slipping.

Stay tuned as I return to awards shows tomorrow. I already have that post mostly written.
