Troopers, drum corps for the Wyoming Democratic Primary

I'm making good on the promise I made in Marching music for the Alaska, Hawaii, and North Dakota Democratic primaries and repeated in NASA experts answer questions about asteroids for Apophis Day: "stay tuned for this year's edition of Marching music for the Wyoming Democratic Caucuses. Troopers!"

I kick off the music to watch and listen while waiting for results with Troopers | #dci2022 | VorAcious from Drum Corps International (DCI).

Casper, Wyoming's Troopers perform a segment from the corps' #DCI2022 production, "VorAcious," during the 2022 DCI World Championships hosted August 12-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Yes, it really was "one of the best moments of the summer," including Genevieve Batman screaming while doing what I want to say is her best Tina Guo impression, except that Tina would be playing while standing up and wearing a skimpier costume. I think it's safer and better for the performance that Genevieve sat down while wearing a guard uniform.

In 2022 the Troopers earned a spot among DCI's elite Top 12 for the first time in more than a decade. Take a look back at the timeline of the Wyoming corps' roadmap back to the finale of the DCI World Championships.

As I first wrote in 2016, "No Troopers retrospective would be complete without both a sunburst and a color presentation" and this compilation and lots of sunbursts and one that was also a color presentation.

Marching music for the Wyoming Democratic Caucuses

As I told my readers in the final paragraph of Roll Call and Teen Kids News update statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C., popular topics for the past three years of Crazy Eddie's Motie News, "Stay tuned for an update to 2016's Drum corps for the Wyoming Democratic Caucuses."  As Wikipedia states:

The 2020 Wyoming Democratic caucuses were scheduled to take place on April 4, 2020, in the Democratic Party presidential primaries for the 2020 presidential election. However, the in-person caucus was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and mail-in voting was extended to April 17, 2020.

As I wrote in Marching Music for the Alaska Democratic Primary, "Since Bernie Sanders dropped out, there is little suspense left in the result, although it's possible that Sanders could win, as he did in 2016, which would be a Pyrrhic victory."  Sanders didn't get that as he lost and he has now endorsed Biden, along with former President Barack Obama and Senator Elizabeth Warren.  Other than selecting delegates, this election has little meaning.  Just the same, enjoy the music while waiting for the results.

Still, it is a good excuse for another of my marching music for a primary election entries, especially since Wyoming has a famous drum and bugle corps, the Troopers, who I've featured here before.  I begin with the corps' 2016 show, Hero.

Unfortunately, neither of these shows have the elements I mentioned four years ago, when I wrote "No Troopers retrospective would be complete without both a sunburst and a color presentation."  To make up for it, here's the corps performing a sunburst from 2008...

Other traditional aspects of a Troopers show missing are patriotic songs and music from Westerns.  Follow over the jump for a marching band from Wyoming that has preserved that tradition.

A drum corps 4th of July from the Troopers

Last night, I told my readers "I'm not done with the holiday.  Stay tuned for another drum corps 4th of July!"  Since I'm an environmentalist, I'm going to recycle videos from two years ago as well as this April mixed in with new material.

I begin with the 1986 Troopers performing their trademark sunburst to Aaron Copland's "The Red Pony."


That's not all from 1986.  Here's the chorale version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as a pseudo color presentation.

The corps opened its 1986 production with "American Salute," based on the Civil War era song, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home." "Silverado" caught the dynamic flavor of settling the Old West, complete with a hoedown. The reverence of "Prayer of Thanksgiving" was followed by the Americana exuberance of Copland's "The Red Pony" and the corps' trademark "Sunburst" drill maneuver.

What pushed this show over the edge into patriotic splendor was the slow tempo "Battle Hymn of the Republic," with eight red, white and blue banners unfurled as if the rays of the sun rising over a new day of honor. With the entire corps surrounded by red, white and blue flags, this show couldn't have been more patriotic had the corps spelled out "AMERICA" across the field.

Drum corps for the Wyoming Democratic Caucuses

Today is yet another stop on the campaign trail, the Wyoming Democratic County Caucuses, where 14 delegates are at stake.  This is probably the smallest delegation from a state up for grabs, fewer than Alaska's 16, but every delegate counts.

As for who will win, there appear to have been no polls, but three of four reporters at the San Diego Union Tribune think Sanders will win.  I think they're probably right; Wyoming is Sanders' kind of state and caucuses are his best type of contest.  All four of them also think Clinton will win the nomination.  I think they're right about that, too.

Enough of today's politics.  As I wrote at the conclusion of Drum corps for the Wisconsin Primary:
