It's Saturday, so here are SNL's eleven Emmy nominations


I closed CityNerd asks 'Congestion Pricing: Will We Finally Learn?' A driving update by asking "Saturday Night Live's eleven Emmy nominations, anyone?" Not seeing any objections or other suggestions, I'm doing just that, beginning with one category I haven't covered yet.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
  • Michael J. Fox – Shrinking: "The Field" as Gerry (Apple TV)
  • Brett Goldstein – Shrinking: "Happiness Mission" as Louis Winston (Apple TV)
  • Hamish Linklater – Widow's Bay: "Seasickness" as Richard Warren (Apple TV)
  • Christopher McDonald – Hacks: "No New Tricks" as Marty Ghilain (HBO Max)
  • Rob Reiner – The Bear: "Tonnato" as Albert Schnur (FX)
  • Connor Storrie – Saturday Night Live: "Host: Connor Storrie" as host (NBC)
Connor Storrie is the only SNL performer nominated at these Emmy Awards and the youngest SNL guest host ever nominated, but that doesn't seem to count for much at Gold Derby, where none of the professionals have picked him to win. Their leader is Michael J. Fox, who has the support of 53.8% of experts and 42.9% of editors along with 60.7% of users. Fox is followed by the late Rob Reiner, the choice of 23.1% of experts, 28.6% of editors, and 22.0% of users and Hamish Linklater, picked by 23.1% of experts, 14.3% of editors, and 7.0% of users. Professional and fan opinion diverge for fourth and fifth, as 14.3% of editors but only 2.3% of users consider Christopher McDonald to be a potential winner while no professionals but 7.5% of users selected Storrie. At least everyone generally agrees that Brett Goldstein has the worst chance with only 0.5% of users.

The graphic says seven nominations, but four of those are for Desi Lydic Foxsplains and Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse: Give the Man a Prize with two each, so the main show only has three. This places it behind Saturday Night Live with eleven, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with nine, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! with six, and even with Last Week Tonight with John Oliver at three. Gold Derby is predicting that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will win.
It still is.
Next, The Daily Show proper's nominations at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

SNL won this award for its 50th anniversary special last year and The Daily Show the year before, so they're the co-favorites. I plan on writing one of these posts for SNL, so I'm waiting until then to make a call.
Since Home Alone starring Ariana Grande is age-restricted (and justifiably so!), I'm embedding MAHAspital starring Harry Styles.

For the third and final time, every expert and editor along with 90.1% of users think The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny will win, giving Miguel Gandelman an Emmy. Wicked: One Wonderful Night notched 9.1% of users, The Oscars 0.8%, and the rest of the field earned no votes at all.
I updated this category in 'The Muppet Show' leads Taylor Swift and 'Wicked' for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) at the Emmys.
This may be Wicked: One Wonderful Night's best shot at winning, but even here user opinion is consolidating around The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny with 91.6% and all the rest with Wicked: One Wonderful Night at 8.4%. The users have abandoned The Oscars, which has joined the rest of the field without any votes at all.
Support has shifted slightly since earlier this month, as every editor, 92.3% of experts, and 91.3% of users favor The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny, 8.7% of experts and 7.1% of users want Wicked: One Wonderful Night, and 1.6% of users now like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Oscars and Saturday Night Live still have no support.

SNL won the past two years, so it's my favorite.
I still think so, but I'm not making final calls until I cover the competition shows.

  • Saturday Night Live: "Host: Olivia Rodrigo" – Liz Patrick (NBC)
Every editor, 90% of experts, and 73.6% of Gold Derby users selected Saturday Night Live to win, while the remaining 10% of editors and 25.6% of users like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and only 0.8% of users are behind Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Saturday Night Live is bleeding support to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the former has retained 61.5% of experts, 71.4% of editors, and 72.1% of users, while the latter now has the votes of 38.5% of experts, 28.6% of editors, and 26.4% of users. Some users have even drifted to Jimmy Kimmel Live! with 1.4%.
It will be worth covering Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s nominations just to see how this category evolves. Maybe on Tuesday as part of a Closer Look entry.
Now for two craft categories.

SNL has won this award five of the past six years with only RuPaul's Drag Race breaking the streak, so I think SNL is the favorite.
