Watch the exciting 37-minute 2024 Gold Derby TV Awards winners ceremony featuring winner speeches for many of the 30 categories! Thousands of passionate TV fans worldwide voted on our winners. This year marks our 21st anniversary of handing out these awards (with all nominees and winners from the past 21 years featured on IMDb awards pages and at Gold Derby). On the one hand, the Gold Derby voters nominated a handful of shows that the Emmy Awards ignored. The Curse and Elsbeth replaced 3 Body Problem and Slow Horses in drama series, Girls5eva and Our Flag Means Death replaced Curb Your Enthusiasm and Palm Royale, and expanded the limited series field to include The Fall of the House of Usher, Fellow Travelers, and The Sympathizer. On the other, they won't have much if any effect on the Television Academy, which started voting after Gold Derby announced because the winners of the series categories will almost certainly be the same at the Emmy Awards; Gold Derby has been predicting them for months. Still, the few differences in performing and the other show categories serve as examples of electorates mattering.
Nominees for Best Drama Series are The Crown, The Curse, Elsbeth, Fallout, The Gilded Age, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Morning Show and Shogun.
Nominees for Best Comedy Series are Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Girls5eva, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Our Flag Means Death, Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows.
Nominees for Best Limited Series are Baby Reindeer, The Fall of the House of Usher, Fargo, Fellow Travelers, Lessons in Chemistry, Ripley, Sympathizer and True Detective: Night Country.
Speaking of which, the Gold Derby Awards and Emmy Awards only completely snubbed four or five shows on each others lists. The Emmys completely ignored The Curse, Elsbeth, Our Flag Means Death, and The Fall of the House of Usher, all nominated at the Gold Derby Awards. I might submit some of these to the Saturn Awards, although The Curse isn't their kind of show — too subtle and artistic instead of entertaining — and Elsbeth might be too conventional. On the other hand, they might like Our Flag Means Death and I expect The Fall of the House of Usher will earn a nomination or two without my help.

Gold Derby summarized the results on their website, so I continue with 2024 Gold Derby TV Awards winners: ‘The Bear’ and ‘Shogun’ dominate with 6 apiece.
“The Bear” and “Shogun” were dominant at the 21st annual Gold Derby TV Awards decided by our registered users who represent some of the smartest TV fans and awards pundits on the web. Both FX series won six awards. In fact, FX completely dominated with 15 wins out of our 30 categories...Other winners included Last Week Tonight with John Oliver in Scripted Variety Series, Hot Ones in Talk Variety Series, which wasn't nominated at the Emmys, while The Daily Show, the likely Emmy winner, wasn't nominated here, RuPaul’s Drag Race won Competition Program, but Alan Cumming upset RuPaul to win Reality Host for The Traitors, and X-Men ‘97 in Animated Program.
“The Bear” claimed Best Comedy Series for the second time, Best Comedy Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Best Comedy Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Best Comedy Guest Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Best Comedy Episode (“Fishes”). In addition, the FX dramedy claimed Ensemble of the Year, which makes it the first half-hour series to win for its cast since “Community” 12 years ago. Ultimately, “The Bear” only lost three categories. Best Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Supporting Actress both went to “Hacks” (Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, respectively), while Best Comedy Guest Actor was awarded to “Saturday Night Live” (Ryan Gosling).
“Shogun” prevailed as Best Drama Series and nearly swept the rest of the drama awards including both lead acting races (for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai), Best Drama Supporting Actor (Tadanobu Asano), Best Drama Guest Actor (Nestor Carbonell) and Best Drama Episode (“Crimson Sky”). There were only two drama awards it didn’t win, and both of those went to “The Crown”: Best Drama Supporting Actress (Elizabeth Debicki) and Best Drama Guest Actress (Claire Foy).
Our voters spread the wealth a little more in the movie/limited series categories, where four shows were recognized in the six races. “Baby Reindeer” was the biggest winner with three awards: Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Limited Actor (Richard Gadd) and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress (Jessica Gunning). The other winners claimed one prize apiece. “Fargo” was awarded Best Movie/Limited Actress (Juno Temple). “Fellow Travelers” came away with Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actor (Jonathan Bailey). And “Red, White & Royal Blue” was our derbyites’ choice for Best TV Movie.
We presented two categories that are absent from the Emmys, awards that honor the overall achievements of individual performers throughout the eligibility period. Breakthrough Performer of the Year went to Sawai, a double winner here and in Best Drama Actress. And the prestigious Performer of the Year honor was bestowed on Ayo Edebiri, who interestingly won the Breakthrough Performer award in 2023. What a difference a year makes.
That's a wrap for today. Stay tuned for more Emmy coverage tomorrow. Game show nominees, anyone?
