Espresso's GRAMMY nominations for Espresso Day

For today's holiday entry, I wish my readers a happy National Espresso Day!

Get the pure coffee essence on National Espresso Day! Whether you sip one cup or keep buzzing all day long, November 23rd is the day.
As a coffee lover and former officer and director of Coffee Party USA, I couldn't resist.

I also can't resist connecting today to entertainment, especially since Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (Official Video) is a GRAMMY-nominated hit song.

Music video by Sabrina Carpenter performing Espresso.
I hadn't watched this video until this morning, after I heard a Twitch streamer I follow sing a karaoke version and decided to look for the original. I'm glad I did. It's fun and well-crafted. It also has four GRAMMY nominations for Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical and is one of three Sabrina Carpenter songs listed for Amy Allen along with "Please, Please, Please" and "Taste" for Songwriter of the Year. Follow over the jump more about those categories and Gold Derby's odds.

Record of the Year

Giles Martin & Paul McCartney, producers; Geoff Emerick, Steve Genewick, Jon Jacobs, Greg McAllister, Steve Orchard, Keith Smith, Mark "Spike" Stent & Bruce Sugar, engineers/mixers; Miles Showell, mastering engineer
"Texas Hold 'Em" – Beyoncé
Beyoncé, Nate Ferraro, Killah B & Raphael Saadiq, producers; Hotae Alexander Jang, Alex Nibley & Stuart White, engineers/mixers; Colin Leonard, mastering engineer
"Espresso" – Sabrina Carpenter
Julian Bunetta, producer; Julian Bunetta & Jeff Gunnell, engineers/mixers; Nathan Dantzler, mastering engineer.
"360" – Charli XCX

"Birds of a Feather" – Billie Eilish

"Not Like Us" – Kendrick Lamar

"Good Luck, Babe!" – Chappell Roan
Dan Nigro, producer; Mitch McCarthy & Dan Nigro, engineers/mixers; Randy Merrill, mastering engineer "Fortnight" – Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone
Jack Antonoff, Louis Bell & Taylor Swift, producers; Louis Bell, Bryce Bordone, Serban Ghenea, Sean Hutchinson, Oli Jacobs, Michael Riddleberger & Laura Sisk, engineers/mixers; Randy Merrill, mastering engineer
Only the top 24 users have enough votes for me to feel comfortable sharing now; it seems that just five editors have made their picks and no experts have chimed in yet. One-third of users (eight voters) have Carpenter winning this award, followed by 29.2% (seven voters) for "Now and Then" by The Beatles, 16.7% (four voters) for Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather," 12.5% (three voters) for Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us," and 4.2% (one voter each) choosing "Texas Hold 'Em" by Beyonce and Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!" I suspect there is a strong generational split between The Beatles' voters and Carpenter's.

Best Pop Solo Performance
"Bodyguard" – Beyoncé
"Espresso" – Sabrina Carpenter
"Apple" – Charli XCX
"Birds of a Feather" – Billie Eilish
"Good Luck, Babe!" – Chappell Roan
Gold Derby's top 24 users are much more united behind Carpenter for this award, as 62.5% (15 users) voted for her to win it, followed by 25.0% (six voters) picking Eilish, and 12.5% (three voters) choosing Chappell Roan.

Gold Derby doesn't have odds for this category or the next and I don't have any opinions about the songwriters yet, so I'm moving on to the final category.

Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical
"Alter Ego" (Kaytranada remix) – Kaytranada, remixer (Doechii featuring JT)
"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" (remix) – David Guetta, remixer (Shaboozey & David Guetta)
"Espresso" (Mark Ronson x FnZ Working Late remix) – FnZ & Mark Ronson, remixers (Sabrina Carpenter)
"Jah Sees Them" (Amapiano remix) – Alexx Antaeus, Footsteps & MeMyish, remixers (Julian Marley & Antaeus)
"Von Dutch" – A.G. Cook, remixer (Charli XCX & A.G. Cook featuring Addison Rae)
I need to listen to all of the nominees to pick my favorite, so I'm starting with Sabrina Carpenter & Mark Ronson - Espresso (Working Late Remix) [Official Audio] to conclude this entry.

Fresh off the Grammys, other awards, and Oscar nominations for 'Barbie' on Barbie Day, Mark Ronson still has it.

Stay tuned for the Sunday entertainment feature.
