I closed 'Brian Cox Goes to College - Uber One for Students' wins Emmy for Outstanding Commercial with a program note and an apology.
While that's a wrap for today, I'm not done with Emmy winners, as I plan on posting about the reality TV winners tomorrow. I forgot that last Saturday was National Coming Out Day, posting Marsh Family sings 'Measles and Polio Down in the Schoolyard' for RFK Jr. instead. It turned out OK, as Steve in Manhattan linked to it at Mike's Blog Roundup on Crooks and Liars, bringing in nearly 200 page views, but I feel I should make up for it. Sorry, National Fossil Day and Hagfish Day. Priorities.Time to compare to winners to the predictions, beginning with the categories I covered in 'RuPaul's Drag Race' leads nominations for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, but 'The Traitors' will likely win again.
Here are the nominees at the Primetime Emmy Awards. That was in August. By the time of the ceremony, every editor and expert along with 95.6% of users had chosen The Traitors. That confirms what I wrote in August: "If I were a Gold Derby user, I'd vote for The Traitors." So did the Television Academy electorate. Watch The Traitors win Reality Competition Program: 77th Emmy Awards.Outstanding Reality Competition ProgramThe main RuPaul's Drag Race leads with eight nominations. Add in RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked and the franchise has ten total. The Amazing Race sits in second with six. Defending winner The Traitors follows with five ahead of Survivor with four. Top Chef trails the field with three.
- The Amazing Race (CBS)
- RuPaul's Drag Race (MTV)
- Survivor (CBS)
- Top Chef (Bravo)
- The Traitors (Peacock)
Gold Derby's odds scramble this order with 90% of experts, 83.3% of editors, and 83.6% of users expecting last year's winner The Traitors to repeat, 10% of experts and 10.1% of users think long-time winner RuPaul's Drag Race will return to the podium, 16.7% of editors and 2.1% chose Survivor, which replaced The Voice, to come from not being nominated last year to win in an upset, 2.8% of users picked Top Chef, and 1.4% of users have The Amazing Race in the back of the pack.
The team from The Traitors accepts the Emmy for Reality Competition Program at the 77th Emmy Awards. It was worth watching that for Leanne Morgan, whose Netflix series I expect will earn Emmy nominations next year. As for Alan Cummings and the rest of the crew of The Traitors, congratulations on this award and the rest of those its broom caught up on its sweep!
Before I examine those categories, I'm celebrating Queer Eye's return to the podium by looking at the program category from 'Shark Tank' vs. 'Queer Eye' for Outstanding Structured Reality Program at the Emmy Awards.
Opinion at Gold Derby continued to consolidate around Shark Tank as 88.9% of experts and 90.3% of users had joined all the editors in the feeding frenzy around the sharks winning, while only 11.1% of experts and 7.0% of users remained with Queer Eye. The latter ended up being right. Watch Queer Eye blow the sharks out of the water as the show wins Structured Reality Program: 2025 Creative Arts.Outstanding Structured Reality ProgramThe nominees are the same as last year and the year before, although the number of nominations per show differs. Queer Eye leads with three nominations, Shark Tank has two, and the rest have only this one. Despite not having the lead in nominations, Gold Derby is picking Shark Tank to win, as all the editors, 75% of the experts, and 80.7% of the users have chosen it to repeat last year's surprise win. One-quarter of the experts and 11.4% of users think Queer Eye will return to the podium. Love Is Blind is the choice of 3.5% of users, followed by Antiques Roadshow with the support of 2.7% of users and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives backed by 1.7%. I'm with the sharks.
- Antiques Roadshow (PBS)
- Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food Network)
- Love Is Blind (Netflix)
- Queer Eye (Netflix)
- Shark Tank (ABC)
The team from Queer Eye accepts the Emmy for Structured Reality Program at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.I'm glad to have been wrong, but I'm not sure about the majority at Gold Derby. Just the same, congratulations!
Back to The Traitors.
The users caught up with the professionals before the ceremony, with 96.4% of users joining all the editors and experts in choosing Alan Cumming. They were right. Watch Host For A Reality Or Reality Competition Program: 2025 Creative Arts.More users have jumped on the Alan Cumming bandwagon, as 88.0% now pick him to win. That support has come at the expense of RuPaul and Jeff Probst, who now have only 7.6% and 2.1%, respectively, of users's votes.Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition ProgramThe only award the sharks are likely to win is a game of "one of these things is not like the others," as they are the only hosts of a structured reality program nominated; all the rest are hosts of competition shows. Gold Derby has them in last place with only 0.2% of users placing long-shot bets on them. Alan Cumming of The Traitors is the choice of every editor and expert along with 87.2% of users. RuPaul Charles of RuPaul's Drag Race has the support of 8.2% of users, followed by Jeff Probst of Survivor with 2.3%, Kristen Kish of Top Chef with 2.1%, and the poor sharks in last.
- RuPaul Charles – RuPaul's Drag Race (MTV)
- Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Kevin O'Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Daniel Lubetzky – Shark Tank (ABC)
- Alan Cumming – The Traitors (Peacock)
- Kristen Kish – Top Chef (Bravo)
- Jeff Probst – Survivor (CBS)

Follow over the jump for the rest of the awards won by The Traitors, none of which I called.
Surprise! The Traitors' broom caught this in a sweep. Watch Directing For A Reality Program: 2025 Creative Arts.Outstanding Directing for a Reality ProgramLove on the Spectrum is the defending winner, so it's my pick to return to the podium. Only RuPaul's Drag Race among the nominees has won this award recently, so it's my second choice.
- The Amazing Race: "It Smells Like the Desert" – Bertram van Munster (CBS)
- Love on the Spectrum: "Episode 7" – Cian O'Clery (Netflix)
- RuPaul's Drag Race: "Squirrel Games" – Nick Murray (MTV)
- Top Chef: "Foraged in Fire" – Ariel Boles (Bravo)
- The Traitors – Ben Archard (Peacock)
Ben Archard from The Traitors accepts the Emmy for Directing For A Reality Program at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.Look, it's Topanga, all grown up and demonstrating her directing skills. Congratulations on your Emmy nomination! As for the winner, great job on the upset!
So does The Traitors, which I didn't even take into consideration. Surprise! Watch Cinematography For A Reality Program: 2025 Creative Arts.I doubt The Amazing Race or Survivor will win, but they always show beautiful scenery.Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality ProgramLove on the Spectrum may have more nominations that Life Below Zero, which has two, but the latter is the defending multi-year winner, losing only to Welcome to Wrexham, which is not nominated in this category this year. Because of that, it's my pick to return to the podium in September.
- The Amazing Race – Joshua Gitersonke, Bryan T. Adams, Kathryn Barrows, Kurt Carpenter, Petr Cikhart, Stephen A. Coleman, David D'Angelo, Matthew Di Girolamo, Adam Haisinger, Jamie Holland, Kevin R. And it did. Watch Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program: 2025 Creative Arts.Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition ProgramThe Voice is the returning winner, RuPaul's Drag Race won three of the four years between 2020 and 2023 plus 2017, and Queer Eye won in 2018 and 2019. I think it's among those three in that order unless The Traitors pulls a major upset.
- The Amazing Race – Kellen Cruden, Eric Beetner, Kevin Blum, Christina Fontana, Jay Gammill, Eric Goldfarb, Katherine Griffin, Jason Groothuis, Darrick Lazo, Ryan Leamy, Josh Lowry, Steve Mellon, Michelle Ivan Messina, Paul Nielsen, and Steven Urrutia (CBS)

Guerra, John Homesley, Omega Hsu, Niki Hunter, Ryan P. James, Lise Kearney, Alyssa Dressman Lehner, Terri Maloney, James J. Munoz, Jonathan Provost, Rich Remis, Robby Thompson, Matt Wafaie, and Eric Wise (NBC)
Patrick Owen and James Seddon-Brown from The Traitors accepts the Emmy for Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The contestants from Love Island, which I expect will be nominated for at least one Emmy next year after breaking through, are right about the importance of editing in reality shows. As I wrote two years ago: "I learned the importance of editing when I was a moderator of a reality TV forum, even formulating an outlandish speculation hypothesis for forecasting losers in Survivor based on it." I'm sure The Traitors wouldn't be as gripping and entertaining without great editing. Congratulations!
I have four more categories to cover from 'Welcome to Wrexham' vs. 'Love on the Spectrum' for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program at the Emmy Awards, but I've blogged enough for today. Stay tuned for those awards when I resume Emmy coverage.
