'Anderson Cooper 360' vs. 'CBS Mornings' for Outstanding Live News Program at the News & Doc Emmy Awards

I concluded 'VICE News Tonight' vs. '60 Minutes' for Outstanding Recorded News Program at the News & Doc Emmy Awards by telling my readers "I'm planning on continuing my coverage of the News & Doc Emmys with the nominees for Outstanding Live News Program tomorrow." Without any further ado, here are the nominees for that award.
Outstanding Live News Program
ABC World News Tonight with David Muir
ABC
Anderson Cooper 360 CNN
CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell CBS
CBS Mornings CBS
Nightly News with Lester Holt NBC
Anderson Cooper 360 leads this field with seven nominations, followed by CBS Mornings with three, then ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell, and Nightly News with Lester Holt with just this one. Based on the number of nominations, Anderson Cooper 360 would be the favorite, but CBS Mornings is the defending winner. This sets up a contest much like the once between VICE News Tonight and 60 Minutes, although the disparity in longevity and reputation is much less between Anderson Cooper 360 and CBS Mornings. I expect a close vote for the winner, not that anyone outside of the accounting firm counting the ballots will ever know. I wouldn't be surprised if either win.

For completeness, here are the other categories in which Anderson Cooper 360 and CBS Mornings earned nominations. Anderson Cooper 360 is also nominated for Outstanding Continuing News Coverage: Short Form, Outstanding Hard News Feature Story: Short Form, Outstanding Investigative News Coverage: Short Form, Outstanding Live Interview – Short Form (two nominations), and Outstanding Live Interview – Long Form. CBS Mornings's other nominations are Outstanding Investigative News Coverage: Short Form and Outstanding Live Breaking News Coverage. That means the two shows are competing against each other for Outstanding Investigative News Coverage: Short Form.

Outstanding Investigative News Coverage: Short Form
Anderson Cooper 360
Investigating Uvalde CNN
CBS Mornings Decades of Exposure CBS
How Iran’s Security Forces Use Rape to Quell Protests CNN
The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer Horror at Kabul’s Abbey Gate CNN
The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer Russia Plunders Sudan’s Gold To Boost Putin’s War in Ukraine CNN

I have my doubts that either Anderson Cooper 360 or CBS Mornings will win this category. The most nominated entry in this field is The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer's "Horror at Kabul’s Abbey Gate" report, which is also nominated for Outstanding Research: News. Based on that, I'd say it's the favorite to win this award, although one of the previous year's winners was CNN's Ethiopia: Exposing the Hallmarks of a Genocide, which suggests that the voters might like CNN's How Iran’s Security Forces Use Rape to Quell Protests instead. Electorates have preferences and electorates matter.

Even if he loses this category, Wolf Blitzer will still walk away with a trophy, as he will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for news. Stay tuned for an entry about that, although I might write about either Outstanding Science, Technology or Environmental Coverage or Outstanding Health or Medical Coverage first. Also, both Anderson Cooper 360 and CBS Mornings along with five other nominated programs covered the Uvalde school shooting. Expect an entry about that, eventually.
