Stewart, Meyers, Colbert, and Kimmel take closer looks at Trump's first 100 days for Wayback Wednesday

Donald "Hoover Cleveland" Trump's second administration just passed its first 100 days, so it's time for a look back beginning with Jon on Trump's First 100 Days: Destroying America's Reputation, Economy, & Leverage on The Daily Show.

Jon Stewart takes a look at Trump’s first 100 days: from plummeting approval ratings to unfulfilled promises on immigration, health, and the economy, to destroying his reputation as a shrewd negotiator with China and Ukraine[.]
"Suck it, Herbert Hoover!" That's yet another reason for me to call him Hoover Cleveland, although Hoover wasn't unpopular until after the Great Depression hit. That took a year; we're not waiting that long.

Hoover Cleveland claiming things are going great because he's making bank while posting record low poll numbers is enough to repeat what I wrote in George Santos sues Jimmy Kimmel and Trump sells sneakers, "[H]e has long had a very bad case of 'L'État, c'est moi.' As far as he's concerned, he is the country. He's also the worst president..." I may have more opportunities to connect those two thoughts.

I'm letting davidarcherd9868's comment on the video speak for me about what the economy.
Donald Trump promised that if I voted for Kamala Harris, I would experience the worst economy in recent American history. Turns out, he was right. I voted for Kamala Harris and am experiencing the worst economy in recent American History.
I voted for Harris, so I can say it's not my fault. On the other hand, I'm repurposing what I wrote at the end of John Oliver examines RFK Jr. & HHS, "Trump supporters like the Archdruid and his readers actually approve of what he's doing. I have another post planned about them."

Before I move on, I've been warning about China restricting exports of rare earth elements for years. I wish I were more surprised that China followed through.

Follow over the jump for more monologues about Hoover Cleveland's first 100 days.

I'm continuing with Seth Meyers examining Trump's "Horrible” Record-Low Poll Numbers and Insane Time Magazine Interview: A Closer Look.

Seth takes a closer look at President Trump arresting judges, disappearing U.S. citizens, detaining students for their political opinions, defying Supreme Court orders and more.
Watching Bernie push back against Elissa Slotkin reminds me of two things. First, I have a clip of him in Los Angeles in front of 36,000 people.

Second, Slotkin has replaced Kyrsten Sinema as the most "Establishment" Senator caucusing with Democrats. That deserves a post of its own.

Hoover Cleveland's interview responses being untethered from reality prompts me to paraphrase what I first wrote for Michele Bachmann, the voices in his head are not reliable sources. Neither are the real people he listens to.

Stephen Colbert also took a week off, returning with Our Historically Unpopular President | Trump's Sub Deals | DOGE Done? | Celebrating Pope Francis.

President Trump has the lowest approval rating in the history of polling as he exaggerates his dealmaking prowess and Elon Musk's DOGE fails to deliver meaningful cost savings. Elsewhere, Catholics around the world celebrated the life of Pope Francis and are looking ahead to the selection of a new pope.
Colbert turned Hoover Cleveland's responses on non-existent trade deals into the same joke Meyers did — my girlfriend goes to another school/was in summer camp with me/lives in Canada, so you don't know her. I resemble that last remark; the ex-girlfriend I write about the most was living in Canada while we were dating. He also made the same joke Stewart did, that there aren't 200 countries to make trade deals with. Once again, the voices in Hoover Cleveland's head aren't reliable sources.

My wife and I watched all of the above monologues. We didn't watch Rated “F” For Failure | Canadians Elect An Anti-Trump | Eagles At The W.H. | Should Hegseth Resign? Enjoy a first reaction with me.

More Americans would flunk President Trump than give him a passing grade on the first 100 days of his second term, voters in Canada chose a liberal for their next prime minister, more than half of the Philadelphia Eagles chose not to attend a White House ceremony with the president, and many former Pentagon officials are calling for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign after a series of blunders.
I'd give Hoover Cleveland an F because I can't give him a Z, although the Canadians give him a zed, which is another name for Z. I'm also going to repeat what I wrote yesterday about RFK Jr. for Pete Hegseth.
I'm calling for his impeachment and removal, because I'm sure he won't resign and doubt Donald "Hoover Cleveland" Trump will fire him because of what he's doing to science and public health.* Hoover Cleveland will only do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Even so, that will take until 2027 because the House won't have a Democratic majority until then. Sigh.
The asterisk here is for defense and national security.

My wife and I haven't watched Jimmy Kimmel's monologue from last night, Jimmy Kimmel on Trump’s First 100 Days in Office & He Travels Back to 2007 to Try to Stop Him.

Today we celebrate Donald Trump’s 100th day in office, according to a non-partisan research group 52% of Americans agreed that Trump is a dangerous dictator, Stephen Miller is unhappy with the polls, Sean Hannity jumped in to celebrate all of the things that Trump has accomplished, in the interest and fairness of balance we let Donald make a case for his performance so far, Trump called Jeff Bezos to scream about his tariff idea, the liberal party in Canada won a fourth consecutive term and Mark Carney gave a bold and passionate speech, and Jimmy goes back to 2007 when Trump was a guest on the show to warn himself about what’s to come.
Ugh, Stephen Miller, who wants Fox News to fire its pollster. The current maladministration is such a target-rich environment that I haven't had to write about him this year until now. It could be worse; I haven't mentioned Karoline Leavitt at all until now! Also, great use of de-aging on Jimmy K!

Since today is a Wayback Wednesday, it's time for a brief retrospective about two relevant posts.

I shared Jon Stewart's message to his viewers about the election from November 6, 2024 at the Citizen Connect/Coffee Party Facebook page, which earned 467 default and 486 raw page views during November 2024 to rank first during the month. In addition, the link posted to the Crazy Eddie's Motie News Facebook page had 3 link clicks, the most during November 2024. It ended the 2024-2025 blogging year with 512 raw page views to rank 16th among entries posted during the blogging year and 20th overall.

I also shared 'You're Not Alone' and 'Now What?' Closer looks at Trump's re-election from Colbert, Meyers, 'The Daily Show,' and Kimmel from November 7, 2024 at the Citizen Connect/Coffee Party Facebook page, helping it earn 331 default and 351 raw page views to rank third during November 2024. It ended the blogging year with 380 raw page views to rank 39th among entries posted between March 21, 2024 and March 20, 2025 and 44th overall.

That concludes April's blogging. Stay tuned for Throwback Thursday on May Day. In the meantime, here is Wednesday Addams, the mascot for Wayback Wednesday. I have something topical planned.
