50 years of the Maple Leaf Flag for Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!  For this year's celebration, I present The real story behind the Canadian Flag from CBC's The National.

Our maple leaf was raised over Parliament Hill in 1965, but not without controversy. Reg Sherren tells us the little known story of how the flag came to be.
In addition to the history, CBC provided a little flag humor in Canadian Flag turns 50.

The Canadian Flag turns 50 on Sunday. Reg Sherren meets one of its biggest fans.
Cool shades, dude.

As I wrote in the very first Canada Day post on this blog, "Welcome to the first of three patriotic holidays I observe as part of my blogging. Hey, I can't be all doom all the time!"
