Marching music for primaries in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington plus Democrats Abroad

I closed Four years of the COVID-19 pandemic by telling my readers "Stay tuned for this year's edition of Marching music for the Washington, Mississippi, Democrats Abroad, and Georgia primaries." I'm going in alphabetical order by state, which happens to be by poll closing time east to west, followed by a non-North American drum corps and Rose Parade band to represent Democrats Abroad. I kick off the music to watch and listen while waiting for results with with Spirit of Atlanta | #DCI2021 | "Bottle Tree" from Drum Corps International (DCI).

Spirit of Atlanta of Atlanta, Georgia, performs a segment from the corps' #DCI2021 production, "Bottle Tree," during the DCI Celebration events hosted August 12-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
DCI hasn't uploaded any more recent shows, so I'm following up with Spirit of Atlanta – "Up Down and All Around" | DCI Finals 2023 from Pageantry Innovations, which at least isn't a bootleg of the FloMarching video, so it will stay up.

Enjoy Spirit of Atlanta's 2023 production, “Up Down and All Around” from the perspective of their synthesizer performer & audio engineer.
Much like Vic Firth Marching, a drum stick maker whose videos I've embedded as part of this series, Pageantry Innovations is an instrument and equipment maker, in this case the carts for the synthesizers and soundboard. That makes this advertising, but I'm O.K. with that.

Georgia also has an all-age corps, Atlanta CV. Watch Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps 2018 Show Clip By Box5TV, an official clip from Drum Corps Associates.

Provided by Box5TV, enjoy this show clip of the 2018 AtlantaCV from DCA World Championships!
Follow over the jump for the rest of the drum corps and marching bands representing Georgia, Mississippi, Washington, and Democrats Abroad.

Two bands from Georgia made the finals of Metallica's marching band contest. I begin with the medium high school finalist from the Peach State, Kell High School from Kennesaw, GA. Here they are, playing Heavy Metals.

This show is from 2022, so they played it a year before the contest. Prescient!

Now Georgia's large high school finalist, Lambert High School from Suwanee.

I'm sure this is the show, but I'm not sure this is the official submission. Still, great performance!

Moving west to Mississippi, I'm sharing the band that converted me into a fan of HBCU bands, Jackson State University | ESPN Band of the Year National Competition | Usher Tribute from JSU Bands.

JSU came in second to North Carolina A&T, which I featured in Some of my favorite bands at the 2024 Rose Parade for New Year's Day. As a former marching band judge, I can see why.

Now for the most recent Rose Parade band from the Magnolia State, West West Harrison High School Marching Band - 2020 Pasadena Bandfest from Music213.

From Gulfport, Mississippi
The Pride of South Mississippi, West Harrison High School Marching Band performing their field show at the 40th Annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Bandfest on Monday, December 30, 2019.
That's the second show that began with "Ecstasy of Gold," although this is a western show, not a Metallica show. This includes "Paint It Black," which sounds like it was inspired by the version in Westworld.

Now to move to the Pacific Time Zone and the two corps and a band from Washington state, beginning with Columbians | #DCI2023 | Face Everything And Rise, which DCI uploaded overnight. Just in time!

Tri-Cities, Washington's Columbians perform a segment from the corps' #DCI2023 production, "Face Everything And Rise," during the 2023 DCI World Championships hosted August 10-12 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Tri-Cities, WA | 24th Place | 74.600
Not bad for a corps that hadn't appeared at DCI Championships before!

Now the other corps from the Evergreen State, Seattle Cascades | #DCI2023 | Revival | Revival (Interlude) - Eminem.

Seattle, Washington's Seattle Cascades perform a segment from the corps' #DCI2023 production, "Revival," during the 2023 DCI World Championships hosted August 10-12 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. 25th Place | 73.925
I don't usually call Eminem's songs "pretty," but this one is.

Now for a band that entered in the Metallica contest, but didn't make the finals, Husky Marching Band | Washington vs. Texas - Allstate Sugar Bowl | Husky Band Rocks Metallica.

The Husky Band rocks the Superdome and the Sugar Bowl with music by Metallica!

Led onto the field by Drum Majors Minseo Kim, Bridger Bourke, and Ahmed Bello. Directed by Dr. Brad McDavid, Director of Operation Mary Chrambanis, Associate Director Corey Jahlas, Graduate Assistants Roger Wu Fu and David Stewart, Drumline Instructor Craig Winter, and Field Assistants Don Sabo and Don Curtis.
They didn't make the finals for the Metallica contest, while Texas did, but their football team beat Texas to play Michigan for the national championship. Priorities.

I conclude by continuing to travel west, where I'm sharing two units from Japan to represent Democrats Abroad, beginning with Toho Marching Band - 2024 Pasadena Rose Parade.

From Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, Toho High School Marching Band performing at the 135th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Monday, January 1, 2024. This is their second Rose Parade appearance, having last appeared in 2016.
Now that's a turn!

That was the final band. Now the final drum corps for today, 2022 DCJ The28th ALL JAPAN CHAMPIONSHIPS THE YOKOHAMA SCOUTS.

Division. 1
1st 94.250
THE YOKOHAMA SCOUTS
Show Title : THE COURAGE TO DREAM

High Percussion
High Visual
High Color Guard
Best Drum Major
And that's a wrap!

I plan on continuing this series next Tuesday with drum corps and bands from Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, and Ohio for those states' presidential primaries. Stay tuned!

Previous marching music for 2024 primaries and caucuses posts.
