Happy World Giraffe Day 2016!

Last year, I missed World Giraffe Day, not only because I didn't know about it until a few days later, but also because it fell on a Sunday which was also Father's Day and the Solstice--three holidays in one!  This year, the holidays fall on consecutive days, Father's Day on Sunday, Summer Solstice on Monday, and World Giraffe Day today.  How convenient!

Enough meta.  Watch and listen to Radiowavenews explain World Giraffe Day 21 June.

The longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and longest night of the year in the southern hemisphere is a perfect day to celebrate the world's tallest animal!
Happy World Giraffe Day!

  1. We only accept Llamas in this Internet.

    1. You really shouldn't give me an opportunity to quote Monty Python. By mentioning llamas, you have now given me two! First, the Llama Sketch.

(On screen we see a caption: 'THE LLAMA')

(A Spanish guitarist and a dancer in traditional Spanish costume, followed by a caption on the screen : 'LIVE FROM GOLDERS GREEN'. Man enters and walks up to a life-size photo of a llama. He delivers the following lecture in Spanish, with help from the guitarist and dancer, and superimposed subtitles.')

Man: (but in Spanish with subtitles in English) The llama is a quadruped which lives in big rivers like the Amazon. It has two ears, a heart, a forehead, and a beak for eating honey. But it is provided with fins for swimming.

Guitarist & Dancer: Llamas are larger than frogs.

Man: Llamas are dangerous, so if you see one where people are swimming, you shout...

Guitarist & Dancer: Look out, there are llamas!

(A Spanish Lady dressed in a spanish frock, enters on a moped she blows up a paper bag and bursts it. They bow. Cut to exterior Ada's Snack Bar [a small cafe]. Hand-held camera moves round the back to where an announcer is seated at desk with an old-fashioned BBC microphone.)

Announcer: And now for something completely different - a man with a tape recorder up his nose.

    2. Next, the final version of the opening credits to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

The directors of the firm hired to continue the credits after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked. The credits have been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute. 2. I was always struck by how beautiful giraffes' eyes are. Their eyelashes are so long! Giraffes rock.

    1. Yes, they are and they do. That's why I jumped on the bandwagon with this holiday, which was the second time it was observed.
