The state of D.C. statehood for Flag Day 2022

Happy Flag Day! As I have the past three years, I'm observing the holiday by blogging about D.C. statehood. I begin with Advocates Continue Pushing for D.C. Statehood from Now This News.

'There’s a 700,000-person hole in our democracy and it needs to be fixed’ — This organization is dedicated to making Washington, D.C., the 51st state.
That was the big picture. CNN uploaded a more personal statement of support in The half-baked arguments against DC statehood.

Elliot Williams, CNN legal commentator and baker extraordinaire, argues that if any ingredient in a cake is underrepresented, the whole thing might literally fall apart. With all of Washington, DC, residents lacking representation, what does that mean for American democracy?
Mmm, cake!

The ACLU of the District of Columbia put together a more serious debunking of arguments against D.C. statehood and a defense of the proposal before Congress in D.C. Statehood IS Constitutional...Here's Why.

Opponents may try to tell you that it is unconstitutional to grant statehood to D.C. This is a myth. This short video walks you through it.
Who am I to argue with the smart lawyers of the ACLU?

I will examine a related topic, Puerto Rican statehood, on PiƱa Colada Day next month. In the meantime, stay tuned for reactions to the ongoing January 6th Committee hearings tomorrow.
