History of Labor Day plus drinks and marching bands to celebrate the holiday

Happy Labor Day! I'm returning to my pre-pandemic themes of history and drinks for the holiday with some bonus marching band. I begin with history from CBS Mornings Labor day recognizes fight for fair wages, hours from 2014.

Millions of Americans are enjoying the day off work and school, but some may have lost the significance of the national holiday. Kenneth C. Davis, author of "Don't Know Much About History," joins the "CBS This Morning" co-hosts to talk about Labor Day.
Let us not forget that Labor Day is not only a celebration of the end of summer and beginning of fall, but one of work, working people, and their struggle for better working conditions and the ability to enjoy their lives. Workers are still pursuing the latter today, but in a more individualistic fashion through the Great Resignation, a subject I might return to in a future post.

Follow over the jump for the drinks and marching bands.

Of all the suggestions YouTube offered me, Good Day Sacramento's Laborless Cocktails for Labor Day title most appealed to me.

Don't labor this Labor Day weekend, make these three delicious cocktails that only require three ingredients.
After all the elaborate Tipsy Bartender videos I've embedded over the years, simple cocktail recipes come as a welcome change of pace. That wildlife in the form of a stray bird, bat, or squirrel made a cameo in the video added to the humor of it. It also reminded me that Saturday was National Wildlife Day. Maybe next year I'll remember to observe it on time.

I close with a battle of the bands between Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University from Saturday. I begin with Halftime Show Labor Day Classic | PVAMU Marching Storm | 2021 from Marching Storm Media.

The Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm under the direction of Dr. Tim Zachery.
Next, the home band at the game, Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul LDC Halftime 2021.

Here's to hoping the pandemic doesn't shut down football season, like it did temporarily last year. Once again, happy Labor Day!
