Two Twitter announcements — Tucker Carlson's Twitter show and Elon Musk hiring a new CEO for Twitter

I told my readers to "Stay tuned for a retrospective of the blog's year on Twitter tomorrow for Flashback Friday" yesterday, so I looked for news about Twitter and, wow, did I find some! First, an update to the continuing saga of Tucker Carlson and leaving Fox News from NBC News, Former FOX host Tucker Carlson to launch a new show on Twitter.

I should have figured that Fox News was still paying Carlson as long as he complied with the non-compete clause in his contract. I should have also figured out that Carlson, who is not only the son of a former head of the Voice of America, but also the stepson of Patricia Swanson, an heiress to the Swanson TV dinner company her grandfather Carl Swanson founded, might not be motivated enough by the money to stay "off the air." Technically speaking, neither cable nor the Internet are "on the air" the way broadcast radio and television are, but there isn't a better expression. Instead, he wants to be heard and seen by his audience and affect current events. Some things are more important than money.

The other news I found was Elon Musk announcing that he's hiring a CEO to replace him at Twitter. Yahoo! News has that story in NBCUniversal's Linda Yaccarino reportedly in talks to be named new Twitter CEO.

At least Musk found someone who has the skills to reverse Twitter's weakness among advertisers. Just the same, the jury's out, as it was when I last commented on his ownership in 'SNL' shares scary news for Halloween 2022.
'SNL' shares Easter wishes in its cold open included a Weekend Update clip about Elon Musk buying Twitter, but I haven't said anything about since because I wasn't sure it would happen and I wanted to see how would work out if it did. It has and so far I'm not positively impressed. I'm not surprised about that, either.
My opinion hasn't changed in the six months since.

As for Carlson's announced show on Twitter, I hope it will have the same result as Donald Trump returning to Facebook and Twitter, a reversal of his 2021 bans: "I think it will work out as well as reopening Jurassic Park, a spectacular and entertaining disaster."

It was also the third most popular post of November 2022, earning 97 impressions and 14 total engagements. I tweeted Ta-ta, Tulsi, as Gabbard gives up from March 21, 2020 several times, earning a total of 3,054 impressions and 100 engagements to become the third most viewed link from this blog on Twitter. The top tweet of this link was during August 2022, earning 1,139 impressions and 46 total engagements (most for the month for both and 6th most active single tweet with a link)), including 27 media engagements (most for the year and month), 15 detail expands (most for the month), 2 link clicks, 1 retweet, and 1 profile click. Its quote-tweet that month earned 993 impressions and 10 total engagements, including 4 profile clicks (tied for most during month), 2 link clicks, 2 detail expands, 1 retweet, and 1 like. It was also the second most viewed tweet during June 2022 and the fourth most viewed tweet during January 2023.

My quote tweet on August 2, 2022 earned 1,858 impressions (most for August 2022 and the 3rd most active single tweet with a link during the year) and 11 total engagements, including 4 hashtag clicks (most for year and month of August 2022), 4 profile clicks (tied for most), 2 likes, and 1 retweet.

'Prehistoric Planet' previews explore extinct biodiversity on International Day for Biological Diversity from May 22, 2022, tweeted by Kevin G. on June 7, 2022 and retweeted by me the same day, had the most impressions during June 2022 and the 4th most active single tweet with a link, 1,851, and 11 total engagements, including 7 likes (most), 3 detail expands (tied for most), and 1 retweet.
A tweet of a post linking to Colbert and Meyers take closer looks at Kevin McCarthy becoming Speaker after 15 ballots earned at least 8 engagements, 4 retweets (most), 3 likes, and 1 reply in 1 thread, on 1,706 page views as the top mention and the fifth most viewed tweet linking to a post on this blog.

I tweeted My 2022 Saturn Awards votes from October 23, 2022 on October 26, 2022, earning 846 impressions (third most for the month and seventh most for the year) and 22 total engagements, including 18 link clicks (most for the month), 1 retweet, 1 like, 1 detail expands, and 1 profile click. My retweet on October 26, 2022 earned another 444 impressions (third most for the month) but no engagements.

The eighth most seen tweet was More from the Archdruid and his readers on zombies, part 2 from October 22, 2017 and tweeted April 12, 2022 earned 766 impressions (second most for the month) and 7 total engagements, including 6 link clicks and 1 detail expand.

What motivates Americans to act had the most impressions during January 2023 with 701, the ninth most viewed tweet of the blogging year, and 21 total engagements, including 13 link clicks (most), 3 detail expands, 3 profile clicks, 2 replies in 1 thread, and 1 like.

I didn't know Canute was the King of North Carolina from May 31, 2012 and tweeted on May 11, 2022 earned 692 impressions (most for the month and tenth most for the year) and 16 total engagements (second most), including 10 link clicks (second most), 4 profile clicks (tied for most), and 2 detail expands.

On March 12, 2023, I tweeted Four years ago, we were partying like 1929--what a difference today! It earned 680 impressions to rank 11th for the year and 9 total engagements, including 3 likes, 2 link clicks, 2 profile clicks, 1 retweet, and 1 detail expand.

I close this list with 'Teenage Dream' and 'The Lost Class' - two PSAs about gun violence nominated for Outstanding Commercial at the 2022 Emmy Awards from July 16, 2022, which I tweeted on September 3, 2022, earning 231 impressions and 5 total engagements, including 2 link clicks, 15 replies in 1 thread (most replies in a thread for the year), 1 detail expand, and 1 profile click.
