CNN and Business Insider reported on the U.S. Army and politicians using Pinterest

I told my readers to "Stay tuned for a bonus post about how my pins from this blog fared on Pinterest, which I didn't feel like delaying until Thursday."  It turned out to be a real blast from the past as the best reports on U.S. politics and government on Pinterest came from 2012.  First, CNN's The politics of Pinterest, which talks about Ann Romney's Pinterest board, which she was using to support her husband's presidential campaign, and the U.S. Army's use of the image board.

Pinterest is gaining popularity among women, the Army and political campaigns. CNN's Lisa Sylvester reports.
Two days before CNN uploaded this video, Business Insider published Here's The US Army's Guide To Pinterest.
Pinterest is the tremendously successful social pinboard site taking the internet by storm.

It's a big enough deal that the US Army is took notice and assembled an explanatory deck on it, which we found via All Things D.

Whether you have no idea what Pinterest is and could use the explanation, or you just want to see Pinterest through the military's eyes, here it is.
There are nine slides, including the one I used to illustrate this entry.

All of the user stats in the above are seven years out of date.  Digital Information World has the current ones.
[T]here was a 22% increase in million global monthly active users (MAUs) in this quarter i.e. 291 million as compared to 2018’s first quarter’s 239 million. Also a 26% growth in Global Average Revenue per User (ARPU) was observed i.e. 73 cents as compared to 58 cents generated in Q1 of 2018.
That's impressive.  Here's to that growth in users continuing.

I'm also impressed.  As I wrote in Statistics for the eighth year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News, "At least Pinterest is sending readers my blog's way, something I expect to continue."  This month alone, the blog has seen 174 visits from Pinterest, placing it sixth among traffic sources behind Facebook, Google, Twitter, Bing, and Kunstler's blog.  That makes for a good source of readers.

Follow over the jump for the most saved pins from this blog during the past year.

Following modified from The most active pins on Pinterest during the eighth year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News on Dreamwidth.

Star Wars Drinks for Star Wars Day was the most saved pin of the eighth year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News.  It earned 107 page views in seven appearances in the top three posts of the month.  Its the most saved pin three times, April 2018, May 2018, and June 2018 with seven, 54, and 13 saves, respectively.  It was the second most saved pin twice, July and August 2018 with 3 saves each.  Finally, it was the third most saved pin twice, February 2019 with 16 saves and the first three weeks of March 2019 with 11 saves.

Good news for animals in entertainment on the first Norther! earned 62 page views total in three appearances in the monthly top three, as it was the most saved pin during January 2019 and February 2019 with 22 saves each and the second most saved pin during the first three weeks of March 2019 with 18 saves.

For Winter Solstice 2016, the Archdruid and I discuss Discordianism and fake holidays appeared twice in the monthly top three and earned an honorable mention a third time.  It was the most saved pin during December 2018 with 36 saves, the second most saved pin during January 2019 with 14 saves, and the fourth most saved pin during February 2019 with 8 saves for a total of 58 saves.

More on St. Patrick's Day from Tipsy Bartender earned 50 page views total in three appearances in the monthly top three, as it was the third most saved pin during January 2019 with 12 saves, the second most saved pin during February 2019 with 17 saves, and the most saved pin during the first three weeks of March 2019 with 21 saves.

It was funnier when Chico Marx said it appeared twice in the monthly top three and earned an honorable mention a third time.  It was the most second most saved on Pinterest during June 2018 with 5 saves and again during December 2018 with 8 saves, then was the fourth most saved on Pinterest during January 2019 with 9 saves for a total of 21 saves.

'Star Wars' alignment charts was the most active pin during three months last year, July 2018 with 4 saves, August 2018 with 5 saves, and October 2018 with 5 saves for a total of 14 saves.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' alignment chart appeared twice in the monthly top three, being the most active on Pinterest during November 2018 with 10 saves, and the second most active on Pinterest during October 2018 with 4 saves for a total of 14 saves.

Infidel 753 and I talk fossils appeared in the monthly top three thrice, being the most active during September 2018 with 4 saves and the second most active twice, tying for second during July 2018 with 3 saves and placing second outright during August 2018 with 3 saves for a total of 10 saves.

Drink to nuclear reactors on the anniversary of Three Mile Island was the second most saved twice, tying for second most active during September 2018 with three saves and placing second outright during November 2018 with 4 saves, earning a total of 7 saves.

Shark Week drink and drinking games appeared twice in the monthly top three, placing third during June 2018 with 3 saves and tying for second during July 2018 with 3 saves for a total of seven saves.

Music for a dwarf planet tied for second most active during September 2018 with three saves.

Star Wars drinks, drinking game, and music for The Revenge of the Sixth was the most saved pin from the most recent complete posting year during March 2019 with 6 saves, 4 of them by March 20, 2019.  That would have placed it second among last year's pins.  Checking Pinterest directly showed it actually had 14 saves during the eighth year of the blog, making it the most saved pin.  Somehow, I missed most of them, probably by misidentifying the pin as one for Game of Thrones drinking game, drink, and music so I didn't recognize it as coming from the eighth year of the blog.  Oops!

Drink to a drum corps Bastille Day 2018 with the Santa Clara Vanguard was the second most saved pin from the eighth year of the blog with 11 saves since it was posted.  I caught it three times, first as the only pin from July 2018 saved by another user, next as the most saved pin from the 2018-2019 posting year during October 2018 with 3 saves, and finally tied for the most active pin from the 2018-2019 posting year during January 2019 with 1 save each.  If I hadn't looked at the pins themselves, this would have been the most saved pin from the posting year just completed with five recorded saves.

The third most saved pin from the eighth year of Crazy Eddie's Motie News was Commercial spaceflight crews announced and testing for return to Moon as NASA celebrates its 60th anniversary.  A direct check of Pinterest showed it had 8 saves, while my records caught it twice, tying for the most saved pin from the just concluded posting year first during August 2018 with one save and again during November 2018 with 2 saves.  At least my records and Pinterest agreed on the ranking!

Pinterest listed Mickey Mouse turns 90 with four saves during the just concluded blogging year with four saves.  My records caught it as the most active pin from an entry posted from November 2018 with 2 saves.

I managed to catch all the saves for R.I.P. Stan Lee, as it was the most active pin from the just concluded posting year with 2 saves during February 2019 for a total of three including mine.

Other pins from the blogging year that ended on March 20, 2019 that I caught being saved by others were Alex Jones removed from Facebook, Apple, YouTube, and Spotify, prompting free speech concerns from August 2018, 'Tower' wins Outstanding Historical Documentary plus five other Emmy winners covered mass shootings from October 2018, 2018 at NASA from January 2019, and Nominated movie songs at the 2019 Grammy Awards and Toys R Us closing down and Kmart may follow during February 2019, all with one save by others each.

That's it for Crazy Eddie's Motie News on social media other than Facebook, which is where the page views mostly come from.  The next and final installment will be Thursday, when I plan on writing about holidays and the back catalog.  Stay tuned.
